Six bottles from four small growers in the Jura and the Doubs next door, picked by our sommelier to show what is happening in the region right now. Three whites and three reds, all made in tiny quantities with little or no added sulphur.
Box price 1,400 kr: you save 135 kr compared with buying the six bottles one by one (1,535 kr).
The whites
-
Le P'tit Blanc en Croux, Les Vignes à FanFan: light, unoaked Chardonnay from the Loue valley, where sheep do the mowing every autumn.
-
Terres Vagabondes, Hugo Courvoisier: lean, salty Chardonnay from 33 year old vines on limestone scree, no added sulphur.
-
A ces amours bafouées, Les Champs Libres: Chardonnay and Savagnin, taut and a little oxidative, named as a toast “to these scorned loves”.
The reds
-
Paresia, Hugo Courvoisier: juicy, crunchy Gamay from Juliénas, made by Hugo in the Doubs.
-
Impression Soleil Levant, Les Champs Libres: light and fragrant Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Ploussard from hundred year old vines, picked by hand in a single day.
-
Brindzingue, Baptiste Ramboz: silky Trousseau from Arbois, named after French slang for a little tipsy.
Fun fact: Hugo and François of Les Vignes à FanFan share one cellar in the village of Vuillafans.
Tastes good with a big wedge of Comté.
